Aerojet Rocketdyne is seeking a Senior Manufacturing Engineer with very strong experience in welding processes particularly Gas Tungsten Arc and Electron Beam Welding for our location in Carlstadt, NJ.
This position may be filled at this level or one level higher.
Essential Job Functions (Including % of Time for Each)
50% - Provide leadership in all aspects of welding on production and new product development. Develop welding techniques, procedures including selection of equipment utilizing knowledge of production specifications, properties and characteristics of metals and metal alloys, and engineering principles. Provide oversight to a team of at least four welders providing guidance for production welding, development welding, and equipment maintenance. Develop methods and lead training of new welders. Coordinate and support electron beam welding contractors to develop and qualify new techniques and support production welding
50% - Create and maintain accurate methods and process procedures and define tooling required to support production and new product development programs. Support manufacturing activities including implementation of new processes and training personnel.
Requires a Bachelor's degree in Weld Engineering, Mechanical Engineer or other related discipline and at least 8 years of experience in aerospace working with nickel, stainless, ferrous and aluminum alloys (or an equivalent combination of education and experience)
U.S. Citizenship required. Must also be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information, and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.
- Demonstrated understanding and successful application of continuous improvement processes using lean principles.
- Candidate should have a high aptitude for problem solving and troubleshooting and be a self-starter to work on projects without supervision.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment may require a combination of indoor and outdoor activity (hot, cold, wet, humid conditions) with a varied amount of walking, standing, sitting, climbing (i.e. ladders, stair, scaffolding, ramps), balance (maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing, or crouching on narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces), bending, reaching, handling/fingering (seizing, holding, grasping, turning picking, pinching), stooping, kneeling, crouching and ability to lift/carry/push/pull up to 50 pounds. While performing the duties of this job, employees may work around variable noise levels. May require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety shoes, and shop coat. May also be required to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer. Ability to distinguish colors may also be necessary. Some employees may be required to drive between various locations within the Company facility or between locations. May require the ability to travel by air or auto. These positions may be expected to work varying shifts and hours to ensure successful operation of activities in the organization.
